The Fae
About Similar to how humans are the dominant race in the earthern realm, the fae (a.k.a. faeries) are the dominant humanoid race in the realm of Faerie. Unlike the humans, however, the fae are quite bound by magic and the nature of their courts. They cannot lie, as it is physically painful for them to do so. This painful reaction to telling untruths is a way of balancing out the fact that the fae, on their own, have no souls. Despite this, however, they can twist the truth or ommit information. Their lifestyle is more medieval in nature and deal are the background of their economy. Any deal made by a fae or with a fae is magically binding, resulting in either indescribable pain or death, depending on the terms should one party fail to uphold their end of the bargain. Compared to humans, regardless of no technological advancements, the fae are an intelligent, superior, predatory race (if not by food habits, then by action). Culture (similarities) All fae are bound to a court, one way or another. Often, the loyalty of a fae is bound to the court since birth. If they're born in that court, they are bound to that court. Rarely, however, there will be some outsiders - the opposite type of fae, an unpledged, or otherwise - who might either have to pledge themselves to a court due to a deal or have to pay off a debt (from a deal) by changing allegiances for however long it takes. Fae hate technology. This is either due to it being made of iron (a fae's natural weakness), being noisy, or the fact lots of technology can affect nature. As a result, they are not technologically advanced. This, however, does not make them less advanced than humans. Indeed, magically, they are more advanced and destructive than that commonly viewed 'inferior race'. Additionally, the fae can be rather cruel and immoral. Unlike humans, the only crimes a fae can commit is those their king(s) and queen(s) charge them with. Rules differ between courts but, so long as the fae does not cross the line with the monarchy, they can do whatever they please. Thus, slavery (of any race except the high fae) or indentured servitude is fairly common, fights and battles are either organized or pop-up, etcetera. Lastly, all fae have two names: their true name and one they call themselves around others. When born, a fae automatically knows what their true name is, but their parents give them a second name for them to use in everyday dealings. Should their true name be freely given (as it won't work otherwise) to another being, that being will be able to command them to do anything but suicide or forget themselves on purpose. After all, their true name is tied with their true selves, regardless of the actions they're forced to do. In addition, if a fae learns the true name of another being (by that being), they will hold similar power over them. Current Deals in Place The currency most valuable to a fae is a deal. Magically binding, any who are in the midst of a deal/bargain with a fae has to fulfill their end of the deal, lest they are met with an undesirable consequence (pain, death, or the fae's choice). Some deals remain open and are constantly being fulfilled, while others are a one-and-done type of deal. Current, ongoing deals pertain to specific races. These include: - Be'tial - Since the immigration of the be'tial from their dying world into faerie, the courts had met in a neutral territory and negotiated 5 deals. In exchange for pledging their allegiance to the courts and providing 10 sons every 100 years for court training and use, the be'tial were given quite a bit. They were awarded territory/land for their clan to reside on, protection for their precious females, and exemption from owing anything should a be'tial find their soulmate. Be'tial who become rogues or do not yield to the agreements forfeit any and all protections, making them vulnerable for capture and slavery.

Warnings for the Unaware As fae are regarded as fiction to many humans, there are a few who are aware of their existence. Regardless, those unaware or aware will face consequences for different actions. - Making a deal with a fae - As mentioned, a deal with a fae is magically binding. For humans, who are either unaware or inexperienced, lack of care in a deal's wording can leave them open to being manipulated. A human must be very specific about the terms of the deal, lest they be swindled. Fae can't lie, but they can find loopholes or twist their words.
- Thanking a fae - Should a human politely say 'thank you' to a fae, it puts them in the fae's debt. To both the magic of faerie and the fae, this action means that the grateful human owes them a favor. Thus, if a fae calls, then a human's body will (against their will) head in the direction of the fae they owe and, once the favor is named, cause pain should the human try to wiggle out of it. (Fortunately, for the favor itself, the human maintains all physical control of their body).
- Displaying abilities - This mostly pertains to the few humans who can see past glamours the fae (or other races) use in the human realm. Not wanting to be discovered by the populace at large, any human who displays this ability are instantly targeted for capture/kidnapping. A rare few humans who can't see fae but can sense them or display an interesting ability in the open are also targets.
- Entering a faerie circle - In the Earthern realm, a magic circle is a circle of magical mushrooms that crop up in forests or other nature settings. These magic circles are portals to the between and, from there, to the realm of Faerie. They are only active during the full moon. The moment the human steps into one and manages to cross into the realm of Faerie, being caught means they're an instant target, whether it be for forced or manipulated slavery.
- Eating faerie food - A lot of food in the realm of Faerie have an interesting effect on humans, as most of it is rich in magic. If they're magical, eating them makes the human bound to the realm of Faerie. Their body becomes entirely dependent on magic-infused food and, if they don't have a steady diet including this kind of food, they can starve despite eating.
- Giving a fae a true name - In the realm of Faerie, a being's true name is the key to their very being. By giving a fae the true name of the human/being, the humanoid is, in essence, giving that fae power over them. Commands will be carried out, regardless of protest, by the one who gave away their true name. The only way of gaining freedom from this power is if the fae with the true name perrishes, the being is freed by deal (magic can erase knowledge of the true name), or the being whose true name is known forgets it (amnesia can be useful).
Abilities A fae's abilities are tied to their court of birth. In the winter (unseelie) court, many fae will have ties to shadow, water (specifically ice or snow), or wind, depending on their race. Those of the summer (seelie) court might have abilities tied to the earth, light, or fire. Depending on the sub-race of fae, they might not even have magical abilities. Instead, they may have physical attributes or enhancements. Regardless, all fae are stronger, faster, have better senses, and so forth than a human being and quite a few of the other races.

High Fae
General Knowledge High fae are the higher power in the realm of Faerie. Divided into the two courts, Winter (Unseelie) and Summer (Seelie), these fae have close connections to the land and are more powerful than their common fae counterparts. Any born a high fae naturally have a high place in the hierarchy, from a knight up to a prince or princess.
Appearances
As there are two courts belonging to the realm of faerie, there are two types of high fae. Unlike common fae, all high fae of either court will resemble elves, but with differences subjective to their personal abilities. - Summer (Seelie) - Those of the Summer Court will naturally inherit abilities pertaining to light, earth, and fire. For all high fae, there is a likelihood that their eyes might contain a glow of color that represents their abilities and all will have a natural tan. Some will also have a passive aura of growth / growth (see below), which determines who has a higher rank in hierarchy compared to other high fae. All high fae will also have elven features, such as pointed ears, a tall build, and a supernatural beauty to them. Hair color also plays a factor, as summer fae will likely have warm-colored hair (blone, red, brown, and even inhuman colors). Fae who are of the Summer Court will have wings, often that look insect-like (much like the human version of a fairy).
- Winter (Unseelie) - The high fae of the Winter Court will look much like how the court is. Their eyes will be cool colored, their skin will be pale (but not completely white) or dark-colored, and their features will be chiseled and/or sharp, making them seem like beautiful statues. Like their Summer Court counterparts, they'll have elven features such as pointed ears, a tall and lean build, and a supernatural beauty to them. Unlike those of the other court, some may have a cold / dark aura that surrounds them constantlyand passively. The higher the rank, the more profound these last features may be. Those of the winter court are more likely to also have cool or dark colored hair (black, white, grey, or other cool / inhuman colors). Lastly, Winter Court fae will often have wings that are animal like, such as feathered ones (like a bird's) or ones with skin and membranes (like a bat's).
Culture (differences)
The culture of the high fae differs based on the courts they are pledged to. - Summer (Seelie) - In the summer court, beauty is a common trait. While no fae would dare to be more beautiful than their queen, there is a shared appreciation for beauty among the high fae. Music, art, fashion - these talents are held in high regard and sought. Among the knights and warriors of the court, their fighting style is both effective and beautiful. Also, unlike the winter court, the summer court relies mostly on their words and magic as a way showing authority and/or power.
- Winter (Unseelie) - The winter court is, by far, the most dangerous. Unlike the summer court, the winter court respects might and power. From a young age, the high fae of the court are brought up learning warfare and battle. Those who have strategic minds, unmatchable battle prowess, and strong magic are often regarded with high respect and authority. Unfortunately, the highest ranking nobles (especially those of the royal family) usually display all these traits. Even those who are either not a high fae or who don't belong to the royal family can gain high standing by displaying these traits. In this court, might makes right.
One similarly shared culture trait among the high fae would be the hiding of their wings. Unless they are the king(s) and queen(s) of their specified court, a high fae's wings are only ever seen by immediate friends, family, or their romantic interest. A high fae's wings are almost as important as their true name, reflecting a portion of themselves, whether it be of their power threshold, gullibility, etcetera. Exceptions to this applies to emergency situations, but even then they'll be punished accordingly. The monarchy showcase their wings as a display of their rule and power, thus a high fae caught without glamouring them is challenging their rule, rebelling, or otherwise. Inherent Abilities and Attributes
A high fae's abilities are entirely dependent on the courts they are born into and their lineage. The courts determine whether their abilities are based in the winter or summer elements, light or dark. In addition, the lineage determines just how much of a tie they have into the land and is used to measure how much they might outmatch an opponent above or below their ranking. - E. Agility

Weaknesses (Enemy-known) Native to the realm of Faerie, high fae and common fae alike share the weakness of an iron allergy, as it is not native to their realm and their biological makeup reacts to it negatively. Being near iron makes them feel weak, sick. Touching iron will burn them, igniting an intense and unique pain. Ingestion or introduction of iron into / within the body can be poisonous and deadly.Strengths Every high fae is powerful in their own right, claiming a small portion of their realm's and their court's magic. This makes them great at seduction and trickery, fighting against those considered 'lesser', and effective at surviving in places that, to a human, can't be survived long or at all.

Common Fae
General Knowledge Common fae are fae who are large in number, but less when it comes to magical manipulation or overall power (not just magical, but also political, etcetera) in Faerie. Like the be'tial, some common fae might take to living in large groups or, like the magi, live solo. Attributes They are many, their differences various. Unless they belong to a specific group, there are no similarities between one type of common fae and another. The only possible similarities would include the court they belong to and the court-shared abilities.
Ex: A dryad will share characteristics and similar powers of another dryad, but will not have any similarity with a satyr other than their court being the Summer Court and their abilities being tied to nature, though on differing levels / control / specifics. Types Note: Since there are many, a list has been created for the purpose of perusal here. Abilities The abilities of a common fae are quite versatile, though some fae might even have no abilities, only physical enhancements. Whether they have abilities, as well as what kind of abilities they have, are dependent on the fae's nature and what court they are pledged to. - E. Agility - All

Note: Click here to view a page with all the above abilities defined. Weaknesses Just like the high fae, the common fae are also deathly vulnerable to iron, perhaps more so. Additionally, they aren't nearly as powerful and, a lot of the time, have inherent limitations based on the type of common fae they are. Strengths Unlike the high fae, the common fae are various, from the brownie or pixie to centaurs and giants. Their uniqueness is to their advantage most of the time. In addition, they are still quite capable of extracting deals from travelers who aren't aware of the dangers.
