Magic-imbued Trinkets
General Knowledge
Due to the fact not all denizens of Faerie have the magicks necessary to enter the Earthern Realm without gaining unwanted attention, the most of the Magi race has been creating magical trinkets for usage by any and all. Those who have dedicated themselves to creating these trinkets supply any customer with what they need, so long as they or their sponsors provide compensation. Common Trinkets
There are a few common trinkets that many denizens in faerie own. These make life easier in the realm of Faerie or the Earthern Realm.- Glamour Ring – Popular, this ring provides the wearer with a pre-made glamour that gives them a more normal look in the Earthern Realm. This ring is also used within the realm of Faerie by other denizens, whether it be because they can't naturally use glamour themselves or they wish to avoid the magical cost (energy) to apply one, taking this as a shortcut.
- Collar of Obedience – These collars are owned and used by some nobles in the Fae Courts on those beneath them, whether it's necessary or not. Those they apply the collar to will follow orders by way of impulse. For Be'tial, the collar creates faux instincts that result in the order being carried out. Other races will feel like puppets, their bodies moving against their personal command. Only the person (owner) who enslaved their victim by the collar may give orders. The only resistance that exists for the wearer is their own (unselfish) will - they must want to sacrifice themselves to pain for the sake of another (protectiveness, love, or loyalty).
- Ring of Purification – When wearing this ring, the wearer has no need to be wary of poisonous or venomous effects that might be ingested from consumption of a possible food source. This is a survivalist's most important trinket to carry.
- Nullification Shackles - With the cooperation of willing elves, the courts had tasked the magi with creating shackles that can nullify one's ability to use magic. This has given rulers of their respective people (Winter Court, Summer Court, the elven kingdom, and even some be'tial leaders) the means to subdue criminals or threats until a trial or judgement can be had/passed. The only downside to these shackles is that it can be removed by someone with very high magic (ex: nobility of the fae courts) or someone with no magic at all. Those subdued are unable to open their own shackles, regardless.
- Bipedal Band - A ring (or necklace) used for fae who do not have two legs. Originally made with water-bound fae in mind, it has since become popular among those who wish to experience the world as a bipedal humanoid. The effects of this trinket last half a day (12 hours), though the rest of the day, it is powered down to recharge.
- Magic-infused Sword (Unnamed) - When high fae master their abilities, it is tradition to seek a magi for a custom-made, magic-infused sword. This sword is bound to none other than whoever binds it. As a result, it is often treated as an extension of the fae - a part of them, basically. Furthermore, this sword adopts the attributes of the magic the user has, such as frost (applies frostbite to wounds), fire (makes the sword hot enough to sheer through lesser metals or burn targets), shadow (sharpens the blade and allows it to bypass normal armor and inflict damage), etcetera.
Relics / Artifacts (Powerful)
Relics are a kind of trinket that was made with long-lost knowledge, granting them magic that can no longer be imbued into a trinket. They are not sold by anyone and instead are either inherited by those in powerful families, stolen by thieves looking for a good payout (favors, coin, support, etcetera), or have been lost and have yet to be discovered. Examples of relics / artifacts include:
- Grimoire of Lost Voices - When magical trinkets were first being made, a few experiments had been done to discover exactly what could be imbued into a trinket. This included magic, knowledge or memories, and even souls. The Grimoire of Lost Voices is composed of all three - a single soul, memories of those involved in its creation, and magic. As a result, this grimoire is sentient, has access to memories stored by its creators, and is capable of using small magic. It can share long-forgotten knowledge, but the catch is that it decides who it ends up with (via teleportation and glamour to avoid unwanted detection).
- Tirdrious, the Magic-Killer (Sword) - The first weapon created with imbued magic, this sword was created from a vicious process. A hundred elves had been taken captive by a maddened Magi, their magic (nullification) ripped from them via multiple sacrificial rituals. As a result, this sword emits a 15-radius aura that nullifies any magic (trinkets, magic-born races, etcetera). If any elven come by this sword, it will be immediately destroyed to avenge their ancestors. Unfortunately, it had evaded their grasp.
- Twin Lockets of Forgotten Memories - Lockets made for the safety of the Faerie Realm, they are held by the monarchies of the Seelie and Unseelie Courts. By tapping the locket of the necklace to a forehead, these lockets erase the memories of the (magical race) target and replace them, as specified by the user doing the wiping (the monarchies). This paired relic only works on those who don't hold a crown in the Courts, as the Monarchies are protected by their close connection to the Realm.
Custom Trinkets (Power-Variant)
These trinkets require a little more compensation compared to the common ones, but are less expensive compared to relics. The client can arrange for their trinket to be in any form and to have any ability imbued into it. Races exempt from having their abilities imbued into trinkets include the Be'tial (as their magic is incompatible / results in failed pieces) and most High Fae abilities (glamour is the only ability allowed to be imbued, as it's a necessity. Otherwise, the High Fae prefer there be no other races with their abilities / connection to the realm). Possible custom-made trinkets or artifacts: - Cursed, Essence-bound Removal Ring - This golden, ruby-lined ring is one-use only for the sole purpose of cursing (potentially) powerful rivals. It binds their very existence to the ring, much like a genie's lamp captures a genie (without the wishes).
- Effect: The cursed is unseen, unheard, and intangible to all but the wearer of the ring. They will feel any pain their wearer feels and are forced to protect the wearer. They can only be seen, heard, and felt by others for a limited time (half a day) if the wearer grants that boon (by shedding a droplet of blood on the gem of the ring).
- Cure(s): The wearer must share a piece of their soul with the cursed as a means to anchor them to reality, have the one who made the curse reverse it, or convince a magi to counter it with another trinket or their own magic.
- Query watch - This is a special-made pocket watch that enables the user to see up to 60 seconds in the future, though vaguely. The future is not 100% certain, so the user might see a different path (that isn't inevitably taken), making it a gamble to trust that future completely. In addition, the query watch can answer questions about things or events. These questions must be simple, however, or at least pertaining to the user.
